The Only Highlighter You'll Need This Summer

I personally feel that highlighter just completes any makeup look

A few weeks ago I noticed that my SEVENTEEN highlighter was running low so I made a mental note to go out and buy a new one. I wanted to try a product that I've never tried before because I've had the SEVENTEEN highlighter for years, I'm pretty sure that I bought it in 2014! With the SEVENTEEN highlighter you could use it one of three ways, all over your face before applying foundation, mixing it in your foundations and just using it simply as a highlighter. I wanted something that I could use in more than one way so that pretty much left me with the only option I had: to buy a liquid highlighter.

A few weeks ago I was out and about in Bristol and popped into Boots to have a look round. I went straight over to the NYX stand as it's something I had never seen round my area and it was a brand that I wanted to look in to. It got to the point were I debated on buying some NYX stuff through asos!

There was two highlighters to choose from, the one I purchased called Sunbeam and another titled Gleam. Sunbeam was the one I purchased because it looked more suitable for my pale skin colour whilst Gleam looked a bit too dark for my skin. I have to admit that I wasn't really very thorough with my makeup testing skills. I just simply applied a tiny bit to the back of my hand, blended it in and thought "yep, that looks good to me!" Sunbeam is fairly pink toned which is why I found it looked best on my pale skin, any yellow toned makeup really doesn't suit my skin type and makes it stick out like a sore thumb.

I'm always a bit wary about applying makeup I've never tried before. My skin can sometimes react to something causing it to become bright red and fairly sore and the thought of that happening before I head out to work or for a nice meal gives me a lot of anxiety; which is why I like to apply new products on days that I have off.

When I first tried out the product, I did mix it in to my foundation which is quite a bold step for me considering I hadn't technically used it as a highlighter to begin with and although it did make my face look a bit more dewy, I came to the conclusion that I would need to apply a lot of the highlighter daily and it's only an 18 ml tube so you don't get an awful lot - not like the SEVENTEEN highlighter which lasted me about 3/4 years.

On the second day of owning this highlighter, I did apply it as a highlighter to my cheek bones, the bridge of my nose and just underneath my eyebrows (simply to avoid any attention to my eyebrows.) I was pretty pleased with the results, I found that it just added a very subtle hint of a highlight to my face (I am quite shy when it comes to makeup.) I wouldn't really describe this highlighter as a 'glittery' product, which it's applied on my face and it catches in the light it is more of  a glow rather than a glitter or shimmer.

Overall I am pretty pleased with this purchase. The only really downside to it is that I thought it was a bit on the pricey side for a small tube. I think I paid £9.50 for it but I'm not too sure, it was definitely in the £9 - £10.50 range. Despite the price tag, I really do like it, it just adds a nice touch to my makeup and it does last a long time on my skin! It is a product that I have been wearing daily and it's sure to be one of my summer staple products. I can imagine this looking ten times better in the Spring and Summer as there will be a lot more light to catch it!
