Save or splurge?

I thought in today's post I would do another VS's post. I use to do them a few years ago, probably back in 2014 when I was at college as I had a lot of free time to kill. I've done a few VS's post, but I don't think I've ever done an eye shadow post, in fact, I don't think I actually owned any eye shadow when I was at college!

Brand

This is my first item item from Zoeva so I can't really go into too much detail about the brand. The only thing I do know is that a lot of beauty bloggers tend to rave about the Zoeva items as this is the only real reason why I know about the brand. I seem to remember, that Zoella has spoken about them a lot (I'm pretty sure Zoella was the main reason why I wanted to try from this brand) I'm in love with the eye shadow palette and I'm intrigued to buy more from Zoeva. SEVENTEEN on the other hand is a brand that I like to think that I am somewhat familiar with. I've been using there products for a good few years and have owned/own anything from lipstick to foundation with this brand. Their concealer is one of my holy grail items!

Packaging

I much prefer the Zoeva packaging, it just has a nice feel to it and you can tell that it's worth a bit of money. Having said this, I enjoy the fact that the SEVENTEEN palette comes with not only a mirror but a brush to apply the make up with. The brush isn't top quality but you can always use it a spare. The SEVENTEEN palette also comes with a primer which you use before applying your eye shadow to help it last longer through out the day. Again, it might not be top quality but at least it's there in case you need it.

Price

Okay so the SEVENTEEN palette is cheaper by a long shot. When I did purchase this it was priced at £7.99 and it has been a few years since then so the price might of changed. £7.99 in my opinion is a pretty good steal, there are 11 shades to choose from and you can create so many different looks with this palette. On the other hand, the Zoeva palette is a lot more pricey, over £20. Despite the price tag, the eye shadow quality is beyond amazing.

Results

As much as I love both of these palettes, I have to say that the Zoeva palette has much better results. You get a lot of colour pay off with just one swipe through the colour. There isn't really a lot of excess makeup on the brush (but for some reason I always find that Foil always has a lot of excess on the brush.) The SEVENTEEN palette does give good results but I find that you need more than one application to get a lot of colour onto the eye lid.
Both of the palettes have similar shades and are both quite neutral when it comes to the colours. Both palettes are great for those who are a bit shy or timid when it comes to makeup. By that I mean, the colours aren't too in your face and are great for day to day looks.

Overall

The Zoeva palette is the real winner here for me but saying that I do think the SEVENTEEN palette is a pretty good dupe for it. Like I said before, the shades in both palettes are somewhat similar and are both neutral. I use the SEVENTEEN more for day to day and then if I'm going somewhere nice or out for a meal then I'll opt for the Zoeva palette. I do think that that the SEVENTEEN palette is a must have for starters. This was my first palette and I loved it to death (still do) but you can just tell by the picture above that it's been loved over the years.

The Zoeva contains 3 matte shades and 7 metallics whilst the other contains 8 matte shades and 3 metallic creams. So with the SEVENTEEN palette you get more shades for your money.

I also want to point out that when I purchased the SEVENTEEN palette, there was only two palettes to choose from. This one and then a palette which had more of a purpley theme to it (if I remember correctly) whilst when I was choosing the Rose Golden palette, there was loads of different palettes to choose from. With Zoeva, you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to the palettes.

When it comes to both palettes, I do love them both but if I had to pick one to use for the rest of my life, it would be the Zoeva palette. It just has better quality, the shades last a lot longer, good colour pay off, there's no need to go back for a second swipe to get more of a shade and I also think you can create better looks from the palette.
