Review | Botanics Mattifying Day Cream

Tuesday, 26 November 2013

Morning everyone!

Today I'm going to tell you about my new favourite beauty product. I can honestly say that I am in love with the Botanics Mattifying Day Cream. I bought this on a whim whilst in Boots and can say that it is absolutely amazing! Some of you may know that I previously tried another Botanics product and hated it. It was one of the worst products I have ever used, I also wasn't the only one to hate it, I had read other beauty reviews on it and they also claimed to hate it. ( You can read about that HERE  )

Firstly, I was drawn to it because it was tailored for people who have oily/combination skin, which is what have. I have an oily t zone but my nose is the worst.

What it says: "This mattifying cream is quickly absorbed to instantly provide balanced hydration and lasting protection from shine. Agarikon Mushroom extract works to tighten pores, while the lightweight formulation provides advanced protection from the damaging effects of UVA/UVB rays. Non pore blocking."
"Willowbark is nature's champion clarifier. Exces sebum, pollution and old skin cells can clog up pores, resulting in shine and blemishes. The bark of the willow tree is a natural source of salicylic acid which helps to refine skin texture and actively target imperfections.

What I think: This is an amazing product and I am in love with it. I will be repurchasing it after it all runs out!
After applying it, my face feels so soft and smooth and it makes applying make up a lot easier, my foundation just glides on. The product does make my face a lot less shiny and oily which means my make up doesn't run off my face as often, yes!
It has a lovely smell to it, I can't really describe what it smells like but it smells very clean, haha. I would say it has a lemony smell to it which makes it very pleasant to put on.

When I first opened up I was a little dissapointed because the cream looks very thick so I thought it was going to make my face greasy and even more oily but it does the exact opposite. It doesn't leave a greasy feeling after applying it which is an added bonus.

A tiny amount does go a long way when it comes to using this product. When I first applied it I used a massive amount of cream and I ended up having to apply it to my neck as well as my face! You can see in the bottom photo that I still have a lot of product left even when I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and have applied it to my face daily.

Depending on how much time I have in the morning does mean I apply the product differently, if I have loads of time then I will apply it everywhere including my neck but if I have to dash off in 5 minutes then I will just focus on my t zone. I still apply this product even when I'm not going to put on any make up as it does reduce the shininess on my face (mainly my nose) and it makes it less oily.

If you do suffer from oily or oily/combination skin then I do highly recommend this cream. It has done wonders to my skin!

Good bits:
  • It actually works!
  • Smells good!
  • Contains SPF 15 (although it is winter so there is hardly any sun out)
  • Doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy after applying it
  • Non pore blocking
  • Leaves your skin feeling smooth
  • Contains sallicylic acid
Bad bits:
  • I wouldn't say it was a cheap product for what you're getting, however like I said before, you only need a little amount for it to go a long way.
I think we can both agree that the good bits about this product definitely outweighs the bad bits to it.

Have you tried this product?
