Over the years I have suffered with MASSIVE clogged pores - sometimes known as blackheads - on my nose (they're probably bigger than the craters on the moon) and I've tried everything to remove them, so I thought I would share a couple of prevention tips for anyone else who has clogged pores.

What are clogged pores?
The pores on your face can get clogged with natural oils, dry skin cells and everyday dirt - so pretty much everything can clog your pores! Unclogged pores commonly occur on people who have oily skin because of the oil glands are being way too productive and easily clog the pores. Dirt and oil aren't always the case for clogged pores, it can sometimes be down to you having a bad lifestyle (smoking), or just going through a stressful period (such as exams.) Hormones can be another trigger for clogging up your pores.

How can I unclog my pores?

The best you can do to prevent your pores from being clogged is to exfoliate. When you exfoliate your skin, you are removing dead skin cells - this is what causes your pores to be clogged. Exfoliate your skin weekly but you can use a gentle exfoliating wash to use every day.

Clay masks are an amazing tool that you can use to help unclog your pores. Think of a clay mask as a magnet. When you apply the mask to your face and let it dry, the clay is able to absorb the excess oil on your face.

Sometimes it can be your make up which is the problem, opt for oil free make up and see if this
makes a difference to your pores

Steaming your face is another solution to unclogging pores. Find a bowl or something similar and use boiling hot water (try not to burn yourself!) grab a towel place this over your head with the bowl underneath. The towel will direct the steam to your face. Let the steam soak into your face for about 10 - 15 minutes. After, splash your face with cold water as this will help the pores close up and tighten.

Homemade remedies are another awesome option to use on your pores. Try mixing a little bit of your tooth paste and salt for a quick and easy exfoliator. Or instead of using toothpaste you can use a teaspoon of lemon juice instead. Gently massage this onto the area you suffer with clogged pores.

Pore strips! I love using these little bad boys every now and then. They are  a quick and easy solution to unclogging your pores. However, try not to use these daily as they can damage the skin. Also, once you've removed the strip, remember to wash off the excess glue, leaving this on your nose can clog the pores, doing more damage than good!

You can also use your fingers to squeeze them out. Remember to wash your hands and use a tissue to do this as you may just be adding extra dirt and oil onto your pores.

Let me know if you have any tips on unclogging pores!
